Adapting and Finding Grace

Wow! The last few months have brought a lot. We have each been challenged, stressed, and grown in our own ways.

I am (mostly) grateful for the extra time I have had with my two crazies at home, but I would be lying if I didn’t say it was hard. Every. Single. Day. The uncertainty and change in structure and routine have taken a toll on all of us. Running a business with a 3 and 5-year-old wanting your attention all day is near impossible. If you’ve been on calls with me over the past two and a half months there is no question you have seen them, heard them, and likely had our conversation interrupted by them. They are at an age where they need you every minute of the day…especially when you are trying to do something else.

So how have I had to adopt? I do most of my calls in the morning (when they are more forgiving and often distracted with breakfast and cartoons). I only schedule 2-3 client calls per day. I work on my “to-do” list after 10pm when everyone else is asleep. I think hardest and most important change I had to make was in the patience and grace I give myself. The truth is, right now I can’t work at the level or pace I did when my girls were in daycare full time. I can’t get as much done or network as often or create content like I once did. I was frustrated (and a little resentful) at the beginning, but I’m learning to let go and accept this for now.

Today I led a Mastermind group, chatted with a business partner, talked to a coaching client, played in the creek, watched my 5 year old catch her first fish (and then accidentally kill it), and gave 2 muddy girls baths all before noon.

We are all finding the ways we need to adapt in our business and in finding the balance that works for each of us right now. What ways have you adapted? What needs to change to make it more sustainable for you?
